independent variable- staffing is required at every hospital inorder to run dependent variable - the mortality is dependent variable, each hospital depends on their staff, wihtout mortality is sure to go down
Question- does the staffing productivity effect mortality index in each of the hospitals
Hypothesis- Hospitals staffing productivity effects the mortality rate. The more people employed the lower the mortality index. People need the nurses and doctors etc. to take care of them and with a greater amount of staff the lower the mortality index. I predict there will be STRONG NEGATIVE correlation.
Focus is in North America region from year 1998-2005
Mortality- The word mortality comes from the latin "mors"(death). Mortality is a measure of the number of deaths in a population scaled to the size of that population.
a number above 100 indicates a hospital had more deaths then expected within a given area
lower then 100 means there were fewer than the expected number of deaths.
For example 78.6 is less than the bench mark of expected deaths of 100
Staffing Productivity - is the amount of staff working in each hospital. One Variable Data
Sampling Techniques
- I got my data off a Ontario Health Sciences site that all hospitals are required to put their data in to the records. My sampling technique would be simple random sample because I just went through picking out hospital. As well I used stratisfied sample in order to get large small and teaching hosptials into the data.
Bias- the biased that would occur in this data is no response. Some hospitals did not put their data in for each year. so I was unable to pick that hospital.
Conclusion
there really is no correlation of staff members and mortality index
this does not say that you do not need staffing in your hopsital, just means it does not matter how much you have to the size of that hospital.
